Gloria Waslyn is the founder and president of Parrots For Peace, an organization focused on continuing the work of the blue and gold macaw family known as the Parrots For Peace. They have done over twenty years of ambassadorial presentations at peace and ecology events, spreading their unique message of world peace and living in harmony with the Earth.
The Parrots For Peace are also the Ambassadors for the Amazon Rainforest and Spokesavians for Wildlife and Nature. These beautiful birds, which can have a 120-year lifespan, are a family consisting of Ms. Merlin and Mr. Baby — twenty one year old life-partners who are parents to three children: Peace-nik,10, Ara, 8, and Hope, 2. Their motto is: “May there be peace with Living Mother Earth amongst All People, All Animals and All Nature.”
Donations to Parrots for Peace will help secure the future of this avian family which is likely to outlive Gloria Waslyn’s human activism. “This allows me to have the opportunity to focus completely on the next chapter of my mission; the Parrots for Peace, comprising environmental education, social justice, and advocating for the inter-connectedness of the planet,” Ms. Waslyn says. She hopes to secure the birds’ future — and their message of peace — to generations not yet born through the creation of the Parrots for Peace Foundation, a 501(c) entity.
Gloria Waslyn wandered into a New York City pet store where she met Merlin in 1998, and her avian family connection began. At the time, Waslyn made a vow to the 3-month old macaw named Ms. Merlin to “give her the best life I could so she could do the work she crossed my path to do: together, we would work to educate people that we are all inter-connected.”
Since that time, The Parrots For Peace group have participated in peace events at several United Nations NGO celebration days: Earth Day, International Day of Peace, World Water Day, Commemoration of Human Rights, and Universal Peace Day among others.
The Ulster County Democratic Women are proud to support the advocacy of Gloria Waslyn and Parrots for Peace and we ask that you kindly note "Parrots" on any donation you should wish to make.
